Lucca, Tuscany

Riding along the walls of Lucca

Explore the Cities and Towns of Tuscany

Overview

Lucca is a beautiful town in Northern Tuscany that is rich in history, art, architecture and music. It is in fact known as the city of music and this is where Giaccommo Pucini wrote the opera "La Boheme"  among his other operas and indeed Lucca is known as the city of Music!  Below this description of the city you can see La Boheme on stage, in Milan and here some music from this incredible production:

The town is surrounded by medieval walls, which encircle the city. They are so large and wide, that in fact they offer visitors the opportunity to cycle on top of them and it's a great way to experience the city of Lucca, which is quite large and filled with various quarters.

Lucca is a great town for shopping and also night life. It's a lively town where a lot of young people from the nearby town of Pisa (where a large university is located) come to enjoy the cafe's and piazzas in the evening.

This is definitely a stop to make on your travels through Tuscany and there are a lot of highlights to enjoy in this town.  It makes a great base also for experiencing the sea-side towns of Forte Dei Marmi, Viareggio and the other sea-side resorts.

A definite must on your travels through Tuscany and some of the finest dining in Italy!
