Lake Maggiore is Italy's second largest lake and home to many garden covered islands including Isola Bella, Isola Madre and many other gardens like the Villa Taranto.

The lake is a popular summer retreat for the Milan nobility as well as the French, German and Swiss who come to enjoy the fantastic scenery and rich, tropical plant life that this area of Italy is famous for, due to the micro-climate that exists here and causes rare and tropical plants to grow.

There are some stunning hotels in this area and fantastic spas. Stresa is the largest town on the lake and the most beautiful.
