Brindisi is a major port city and point of entry to the region in southern Italy located on the Adriatic Sea. Like many other Italian cities it is also a province / region with many other smaller towns and cities so make sure when booking your holiday not to confuse the city with the region which is home to many beautiful areas and towns in the countryside.

Most people do not use the city as a base for exploring the region which is extremely complicated and restrictive as a base to use, since the roadways in and out are mostly for ferries heading to , or other areas in the Adriatic.

The historic center may deserve a walk to view the monument to the Italian Marines "Monumento al Marinaio d’Italia" which is a rudder-shaped limestone memorial to sailors set at the height of the historic center, which offers some views over the town and across the harbor. There are some unique Swabian Castle of Brindisi dates from the 13th century. At the top of Virgil’s Staircase are the Roman Columns.

However, there is very little in the way of charm which would make Brindisi the best choice for a vacation in the area unless you are of course coming for work. Brindisi is a working town, home to one of Puglia's most important airports and is in constant flux of cruises and tankers coming in and out of here.

Should you be coming in by plane or cruise, it's best like most people to get in and get out into the marvelous countryside which surrounds Brindisi prior to making your way to your next destination.
