Salerno is both a city and a province in southern Italy, the city occupying a beautiful stretch of coast south of the Amalfi Coast, one of the most famous coastlines in the world. It is a spectacular region and province in Italy and one you certainly do not want to miss when visiting Italy.

In recent years, the city of Salerno has become famous the world over for the magnificent display of Christmas lights, though all year round it makes for a wonderful base to explore not only the Amalfi Coast, but the Cilento national park further south and sites such as Paestum, Bagni Contursi (Thermal baths of Contrusi), towns of Campania region and of course the wonderful local dishes and wines unique to this area.
