Discover Monticchiello: Private Tours, Experiences & Custom Travel

Monticchiello is a small village with medieval origines located in Italy's Orcia Valley in south-eastern Tuscany.  While it is a less frequently visited towns than the more popular Pienza, Montepulciano and Montalcino, it's precisely for this reason why a visit here is so special.

The town offers striking views over the valley below towards Pienza and Bagno Vignoni and is home to several wonderful restaurants which serve up local Tuscan specialities like the wild bore "cinghiale" tomato sauce, pecorino cheese, a variety of hams and sausages, not to mention the wonderful jams, honeys and preserves which are made by the locals that accompany the local meets, cheese and artisan breads.

During the spring, summer and fall months, the town is home to an out-door art-gallery amidst the olive groves that surround the castle at the top of the town.

Being pedestrian only, this town makes a wonderful stop for visitors to Tuscany with children who don't have to worry about cars, traffic or noise inside the town.

In fact, staying near Montichiello is an ideal choice for families and the Antico Pozzo is a wonderful villa selection, walking distance from the town owned by one of the local wheat-producers, Manuela who has tastefully restored this incredible property.

The town, the gorgeous villa and surrounding towns are truly a step back in time that make an ideal holiday choice in Tuscany.
