Overview

Viareggio is a popular seaside resort town in Tuscany especially famous with the Tuscans. It is a very well manicured beach resort town that can be very expensive during the summer months since many people from the countryside in Tuscany come here to enjoy the seaside and holiday villas.

The town is particularly well known for the excellent sea-food directly harvested from the Mediterranean sea and prepared in the Italian style served up with some of the best local white wines, risotto and of course pasta!

Since the town is flat, there are great bike routes, wonderful public parks and markets and trains that connect this town with Lucca, Pisa, Florence and the Cinque Terre national park further to the north.

From here, do not miss visiting Pietrasanta and the marble caves in Massa-Carrara as these are areas that have a lot of history as well as beauty to discover.
