Overview
This is an incredible food and wine experience that we have put togehter with local producers of ingredients unique to this part of the world on the north-west coast of the magnificent Calabria region known as the Cedri Riviera - just south of Maratea 20 Km.
This area in 2020 is going to be the new back-drop for the James Bond film series that is shooting in this area right now in 2019 with our help. By the time the film comes out, like many other areas in Italy it will be over-run with tourists, so the time to come is now and you do not want to miss during your time in southern Italy. Departing from Praia a Mare, Maratea, San Nicola Arcella this tour is as much a sightseeing tour along this beautiful coast as it is an exploration of the incredible foods, wines and liquors produced in this region which originate from the local products which are 100% organic.
Our day begins when we pick you up at your hotel, rail or port at Maratea or Diamante. Depending on where we are picking you up, the order of the towns we visit will vary according to location, but they will include some of the highlights of the area and the incredible scenery which includes Praia a Mare and great photo opportunities over Dino Island, Scalea, Santa Maria Del Cedro, Cirella, Diamante and Maiera. You can read about all of these places on the Calabria section of our website where we have documented all of these towns, the owners of the company having lived in this area for 20 years.
This coast is beautiful with many historic sites to take in, though this is a day full of wonderful visual sites as well as flavors you will not soon forget that are unique to this area of southern Italy.
The morning part of the tour includes visits to the various towns in this area which will last for about 2 hours, after which we head to the Arieste Farm, in Italian known as the Fattoria di Arieste where the serve organic fruits and vegetables direct from their garden including the Cedro fruit which is a speciality to this area - a cross between a lemon and a lime used as a fragrance in many famous parfumes around the world. This is a property that is locally run and does not have a website right now, so we refer to our partner site at Visitsitaly for explanation about this property at the present moment.
A tour through the gardens, pasta making and cedro-fruit liquor demonstration will be had throughout the rest of the day in no particular order as we will conduct the experience according to the meal we plan based on your diet and tastes.
This experience will include a visit also to the museum of Cedro and the museum of Peperoncino which are unique to this area showcasing the various ways in which these ingredients throughout Italy and the rest of the world are currently used in contemporary Italian gastronomy and gaining more notoriety by the day.
Following lunch, time at the farm and visits to these magnificent locations we will get you back to where you need to be at the time you need to be!

Hotels
1. Hotel Sovestro in San Gimignano was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made the first portion of our journey very stress free. They made us feel like we were part of their family. I would recommend it to anyone and would specifically ask for it if we were to make a return visit.
2. Hotel La Baia in Monterosso was nice and it's location was very good especially for us older folks humping luggage from/to the train station.
3. Hotel Lucchesi in Florence- what can I say expect FANTASTIC. The rooftop view at sunset is well worth it. Again very friendly and helpful staff. Would recommend it to everyone.
Wine Tour
Money well spent. We had a great time overall. The driver Mario was OUTSTANDING. He had lots of local knowledge as well as about winemaking. USE HIM AGAIN!!!
The various wineries we visited on tour:
Altesino- fantastic and they were not cheap on their pouring. Great experience.
Azienda Agricola Patrizia Cencion Sloaria- Again a great tour by one of the owner's daughters. We felt like we were the only thing on their mind although there were other customers there. A great way to complete the day.
Again we had a fantastic time and are very appreciative of everything you booked for us. We wish you continued success and if our travels should bring us back to Italy, we know who to call.
