Overview
The Royal Palace of Caserta was constructed during the 18th century by the Spanish Bourbons, who governed the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies from Naples. Charles VII of Naples desired a place to escape the disorder and violence of the city. After the discovery of the buried city of Herculaneum, he wished to be far away from Vesuvius, in case it erupted again. The palace was modeled on Versailles and was designed to be a Royal palace that could accommodate a king, his court, government, and soldiers.
Your day will begin with a private transfer from your hotel in Naples or Sorrento. At the palace, a certified guide will be waiting to show you the building, the Royal apartments, and a part of the gardens. The park covers a total of 120 hectares. After the tour, you can continue exploring the gardens on foot or by shuttle bus to see the fountains and English Garden.
