Your driver will pick you up from your hotel in Rome in the morning and take you in an air-conditioned vehicle to explore the Castelli Romani region. You will visit the abbey of Grottaferrata, the only church in Italy that still follows the Byzantine-Greek rites. Then, you will go to the towns of Frascati and Arricia, which are famous for their 'porchetta' (roast pork) and large private villas built by wealthy Roman families to escape the summer heat of Rome.
After a lunch break near Lake Albano, you will visit Castello Gandolfo, the Pope's Summer Residence. There, you can choose to visit the palazzo or the exquisite gardens that offer stunning views over the lake and surrounding countryside.
The Castelli Romani region boasts some of the best vineyards in Lazio and is also famous for its natural pure water that has a slightly fizzy and almost sweet taste. The Romans stored their wine in underground caves in this area, and the towns and castles scattered throughout are truly beautiful. You will also stop for a visit to a local winery to discover more about the wines produced in this volcanic region.
