Upon meeting at your hotel, your guide will take you on a tour of the lesser-visited areas of Venice, explaining their rich history. The tour will cover the Cannaregio, San Polo, Castello, and San Marco quarters of the city.
Starting near the beginning of the Grand Canal, you will discover Europe's first Jewish Ghetto, where the city's Jewish population was forced to live for 270 years. As you cross the Rialto Bridge, you will pass the old red-light district and visit the city's market (closed on Sundays and Mondays), while hearing some of the wonderful Venetian legends.
Throughout the tour, you will also get to pass by the house where Marco Polo lived and where he set off on his famous trip to the East. In the Castello district, you will explore the area around the church of Saints John and Paul, stopping to discover an inventive solution one of the city's merchants has found to the perpetual threat of acqua alta (high tides).
You will also walk through St. Mark's Square on your way to the Bovolo Staircase, Mozart's House, and the Fenice Opera House before ending the tour near the Guggenheim Museum at the other end of the Grand Canal.
