Overview
Bird-watching on the Venice Lagoon
Tour Code: TUR-01542 · Duration: 5½ hours (half-day) – Private boat tour (max 4 guests)
Meeting Point: Venice
The Venetian Lagoon is a unique and beautiful natural environment, rich in history and home to dozens of unique bird species. If you're interested in exploring this wonderful location, then our private tour is perfect for you. Accompanied by a local nature guide or ornithologist, you will travel by small boat (max 4 people) through the wetlands, sandbars, and islands of the lagoon, away from the noise and crowds of Venice island.
During the tour, your guide will take you through the salt marshes, a rich natural environment that is regularly submerged at high tide. You will have the opportunity to listen to the sounds of the birds nesting in the reeds and experience a rarely seen side of this unique environment, which is today considered to be one of the most endangered in the world.
Whether you're interested in nature or bird-watching, we can find the perfect guide to give you a special view of this beautiful environment. The tour is available in both half and full-day options. So, let us know when you're planning on coming to Venice and we'll arrange an unforgettable experience for you.
Overview
Discover a side of the Venice Lagoon seldom seen by most visitors — a serene world of salt-marsh, sand-bars and glistening tidal flats, where birds reign supreme. On this private excursion you’ll slip away from the crowds, gliding through the lagoon’s barene (salt-marsh islets) and “velme” (mud-flats), accompanied by an expert local nature-guide or ornithologist.
Your journey will take you into a fragile and spectacular ecosystem: the reeds ripple with nesting egrets, herons stand motionless as they wait for fish, and tiny waders probe the shallows for crustaceans. With heightened awareness, you may spot such lagoon-specialists as the elegant white plumes of the Little Egret, the stately form of the Grey Heron, the long red legs of the striking Black?winged Stilt, or even the up-turned bill and bold black-&-white markings of the unmistakable Pied Avocet.

As tides ebb and flow, the landscape transforms — shallow waters reveal feeding grounds where flocks of ducks, teals and waders gather, harbouring migratory visitors and residents alike. The lagoon supports well over 200 bird species throughout the year, making this an ideal experience for bird-watchers and nature-lovers alike.
