Seat of the Spanish Embassy in Rome, Piazza di Spagna is dominated by the 16th century French Church Trinità dei Monti. Until 1726, Piazza di Spagna was linked to the upper square of the church by two curving roads. Then Francesco De Sanctis designed the great flight of steps of immensely theatrical impact.

The steps have now become a gathering point for the crowds of tourists visiting the city and an imposing catwalk for an important international fashion show. With its 138 steps uniting Piazza di Spagna with Trinità dei Monti, the complex gained monumental importance forming an imaginary "trident" with Porto di Ripetta and Piazza del Popolo. In the church of Trinità dei Monti visitors can observe the celebrated "Deposition" of Daniele da Volterra. Moments away from Piazza di Spagna one finds Via Condotti and Via Frattina, home to numerous boutiques and important ateliers.
