Piazza del Popolo is one of Rome's most important central squares.
the Renaissance gateway of the city of Rome. The traditional promenade along the Via del Corso, Via del Babuino and Vie Ripetta starts here. Today, Piazza del Popolo is a large pedestrian area, of exquisite elegance, a perfect setting for the numerous concerts and political events held here. The Piazza is dominated by the Flaminio Obelisk. The 24 meter high obelisk, which was built in the era of the Pharaohs Ramesse II° and Mineptah was brought here by Emperor Augustus.

These sites include: the twin churches of Montesanto and St. Maria dei Miracoli, which mark the entrance roads to the Piazza, and the Church of St Maria del Popolo, considered to be of inestimable artistic value and which houses paintings by Caravaggio, frescoes by Pinturicchio, sculptures byAndrea Bregno and Bernini, not to mention the architecture of Raffaello and Bramant
