The Overview
Villa Dei Pini is located on the promotory of Caprione overlooking the west coast of La Spezia
At the far west end of Liguria, between the Gulf of La Spezia (also known as the Gulf of Poets) and the mouth of the Magra river, the promontory of Caprione noses out into the sea: covered in thick Mediterranean vegetation, it has tall sides with cliffs, which now and then are interrupted by enchanting inlets and little beaches, where famous villages such as Fiascherino and Tellaro have established themselves.
The panoramas you can enjoy from these points take your breath away and present you with superb sunsets: with a view stretching from the Gulf of Poets and its islands, to the Apuan Alps with the white stripes of the marble quarries, to the Tuscany coast, to the island of Gorgona and as far as Corsica on a clear day. A unique spot, offering the last bays of Liguria and the first beaches of Tuscany.
The wonderful village of Montemarcello stands out at the top of the promontory of Caprione, a splendid place with ancient origins, recently voted among the most beautiful places in Italy, with its typical narrow little streets and well-preserved houses painted a typically Ligurian pastel colour, and which has in recent years has become the destination for a refined and intellectual kind of tourism. Coming down from Montemarcello towards Bocca di Magra, another attractive village with roman origins and a small, well-equipped port, you come across a fork leading to Punta Bianca at the southernmost tip of the promontory: it's a rocky point of light limestone that dives into a deep, clean sea surrounded by pine trees and mediterranean scrub. Just before the little path that goes down, not too steeply, to the rocks at Punta Bianca (15 minutes walk), lies this complex of apartments designed by the famous architect Gio' Ponti and built in the 70s.
Each apartment in the complex, leaning against the hill, has independent entrance, a splendid view of the sea, a parking space in the garage and can use the condominium swimming-pool. The apartment we are offering is reached via some flights of steps, leading through the various blocks of buildings, immersed in the Mediterranean scrub. It's snug and comfortable, with the colours of the sea and decorated with colourful tiles; all of the rooms, apart from a kitchen and the bathrooms, have windows onto the large furnished terrace, divided into two parts that are linked to each other overlooking the open sea, the Apuan Alps and the tuscan coast. From Puntabianca you can easily get to all of the essential sights in Liguria, such as Lerici, Portovenere and Le Cinque Terre, considered a paradise for hikers (although all of the area here is part of the nature park Parco Naturale di Montemarcello-Magra, with several walker's paths), and the famous beaches in Versilia. From the little harbour at Bocca di Magra there are small ferries that can take you to the hidden bays in the area, as well as to Punta Corvo, Lerici, Portovenere and Le Cinque Terre.
