Tucked into the heart of Sliema on Gorg Borg Olivier Street, AX The Victoria Hotel is a place with real personality. Step inside and you feel the Victorian spirit straight away, in the ornate floral motifs, the soft turquoise walls and the gentle gold and aquamarine touches that give the hotel its timeless charm. It is elegant without ever feeling stuffy, the kind of hotel where the welcome is genuine and nothing feels rushed.

The whole top floor is given over to wellness, a lovely surprise once you are up there. Swim a few laps in the indoor pool, unwind in the full-service spa with its massages and treatments, or keep to your routine in the gym, all with lovely views over the town. There is an outdoor pool too for the warmer months, perfect for a slow afternoon in the Maltese sun.

Dining centres on Copperfield's, a beautifully restored restaurant serving generous buffet breakfasts, relaxed lunches and themed evenings, all in a classical setting of gold and aquamarine hues. Everything, from the public areas to the events halls, has been recently refreshed, so it feels both classic and cared for.

Sliema's seafront promenade, its shops and cafes are right on the doorstep, and the ferry across to Valletta is only a short walk away. It makes an easy, comfortable base for discovering Malta, with a calm and characterful place to return to at the end of each day.
