Full Tour Description:
After breakfast at your hotel in Naples or the Amalfi Coast, your driver will pick you up and take you to Pompeii to meet your guide.
Spend the morning exploring the site in the company of your local guide. Learn about what life was like in this important trading town until AD79.
Your tour will take you to some of the most famous sites of the town, including the Forum, theaters and amphitheater. See where people lived, worshipped and worked and what they were doing on the day of the eruption.
Following the tour, you will have time for lunch (your driver will be happy to recommend somewhere) on your own.
In the afternoon, your driver will take you up the side of the volcano which dominates the skyline across the Bay of Naples. If you would like to visit the crater, the final part of the way must be done on foot with the volcano staff (€10 per person). It takes about 25 minutes to reach the crater, where you can see black smoke rising from within, a reminder that although 75 years have passed since the last eruption, Vesuvius is still active!
