Overview

This is a wonderful tour for those who don't want to rush into Rome for the day. The tour takes you, in the comfort of your own private vehicle, to visit 2 wonderful ancient settlements and a lake-side winery before returning you safely to the port for your departure.

Civita di Bagnoreggio is one of Italy's famous 'dying towns', now nearly abandoned due to the slow deterioration of the rock on which it stands. The driver will take you to the edge of the footbridge into the town (there's a small additional fee to cross it) and give you time to explore the small center on your own.

Crossing into Umbria, your next stop will be the wonderful town of Orvieto, a beautiful and secretive town. In the past the pope would escape here when Rome was under siege, but should Orvieto be attacked, what would happen? The ingenious solution was to excavate incredible tunnels through the hill of volcanic rock, making it possible to move around the city unnoticed. You will have time to visit these tunnels, see the Duomo with its incredible facade and unsettling frescoes of the Day of Judgment and taste some of the local DOC wine.

End the day with a visit to a local winery for a wine tasting with a wonderful view of Lake Bolsena before your driver takes you back to the port.
