Together with Innsbruck, located in Austria, Bolzano is officially the capital of central Europe's Alpine region, also known as the Alps.  Not only this, but the seat of the Alpine Convention is there.

Bolzano is the largest city in the region and its archeology museum is world famous, home of the alpine iceman "Ötzi". It is also known as the Italian Capital of Christmas thanks to its characteristic Christmas market and draws visitors each year from all over Europe.
