The 24-day tour departs on Saturday 22nd June 2019 with Singapore Airlines from Australia to Rome and returns back to Australia on Monday the 15th July 2019.   The extensive and meticulous day-by-day itinerary has been put together over several moths with some of the world's leading experts in their fields. This is a program unlike any other: focused on agriculture, communities, historic sites with expert guides.  Get ready!  This is going to be amazing! 



Day 1 - Depart Australia: Tasmanian passengers travel to Melbourne to join Victorian passengers and depart at 6.25 pm with Singapore Airlines,

Tasmanian passengers travel to Melbourne to join Victorian passengers and depart at 6.25 pm with Singapore Airlines, Western Australian passengers depart from Perth at 5.10 pm, Queensland passengers depart from Brisbane at 2.30 pm, NSW passengers depart from Sydney at 6.05 pm while South Australian passengers depart from Adelaide with Singapore Airlines at 9.10 am. On arrival at Singapore’s Changi Airport tour members will have time to stretch their legs and perhaps check out the many duty free shops before boarding the flight to Italy.

Day 2 - Arrival in Rome - Private Transfer to Hotel in Rome - Rome by Night Orientation Tour & Welcome Dinner in Rome

Where we visit : Rome
All tour members depart at 1.30 am on Singapore Airlines flight SQ366 direct to Rome arriving at 8.05 am. After clearing Immigration and Customs formalities at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Airport you will be met by your tour guide and driven by coach to your centrally situated hotel.

Time for relaxation at the hotel and then at 17:00 PM, an orientation tour of Roma with the great lights and fantastic scenery of Rome  

Following the evening tour, we will enjoy a wonderful welcome dinner. 

Overnight in Rome at the Villa San Pio.

Day 3 - Vatican City & Ancient Rome Walking Tour including the Colosseum

Where we visit : Rome
Buffet breakfast at the hotel this morning.

Today’s sightseeing includes the Vatican, Museums and Sistine Chapel, world famous, for Michelangelo’s ceiling paintings
and The Last Judgment. Continue to monumental,  Saint Peter’s Square and Basilica.

After lunch visit the Coliseum, the Roman, Forum, Pantheon, Piazza Navona and the Trevi Fountain. Remainder of the late afternoon at leisure for additional sightseeing for shopping.

Day 4 - Rome - Pompeii - Amalfi Coast

Where we visit : Pompeii, Amalfi Coast
This morning we depart Rome at 07:30 AM  head south to Pompeii, the ancient Roman city that remained buried for 1,800 years underneath ash and stone from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Here we will enjoy a 2.5 hour guided tour.  

Following Pompeii we drive south along the Sorrentine peninsula where you can enjoy some lovely photo opportunities before we make our way to the Fattoria Terranova. a farm which is totally organic and they produce all of the products they serve here, where we will be enjoying a gastronomic experience here and learn how they make Limoncello a local lemon liqueur typical of this area.

Following lunch, we carry down the Amalfi Coast which offers spectacular scenery viewing towns like Positano, Conco Dei Marini and many others. 

Light dinner this evening following our big lunch at the farm and Overnight Hotel Mammorata.

Day 5 - Capri and the Augustus Gardens

Where we visit : Ravello
Travel to the island of Capri by hydrofoil ferry from Amalfi Town and you will also get to see some of the Amalfi Coast by boat. 

The island of Capti resort since Roman times and was once part of the mainland. Emperor Augustus and his successor Tiberius built a series of villas at Capri and they are some of the best preserved Roman villas in Italy. Tides and weather permitting there may be an opportunity to see the Blue Grotto. Enjoy a walking tour of Anacapri followed by lunch and later in the afternoon return to Amalfi.

Day 6 - The Gardens of Ravello

Where we visit : Ravello
This morning we head up to spectacular Ravello where there are 2 incredible gardens, the Villa Cimbrone and Villa Ruffolo.  Here you can enjoy the gardens at your leisure and lunch.   

Time at leisure this afternoon you can enjoy the fabulous hotel or take the shuttle to Amalfi as you please. 

Dinner this evening at the hotel at 19:30 PM.

Day 7 - Travel South through Calabria: Stopping in Tropea

Where we visit : Calabria
We depart Amalfi this morning and head into Italy's deep south, stopping in towns like Tropea en-route to Scilla.

Day 8 - Bova Marina Calabrese Farm - Ferry to Sicily - Taormina

Where we visit : Taormina
This morning we head to the furthest south point on Italy's mainland Bova Marina, south of Reggio Calabria.

Here, we will visit  a typical Calabrian farm cultivating citrus fruits, olives, vegetables and vines. and enjoy typical Calabrese hospitality and a big lunch with local products from the farm.  

This afternoon board the ferry from Reggio crossing the narrow Strait of Messina to Taormina in Sicily situated on a rocky plateau on the slopes of the steeply dropping Monte Tauro that dominates the Ionian coast.

Day 9 - Taormina

Where we visit : Sicily
Tour Taormina and the Greek Amphitheatre, with local English speaking guide.

Day 10 - Taormina - Mt. Etna - Siracusa

Where we visit : Siracusa
Depart Taormina today for the lush valleys which surround Mt. Etna, Europe's largest active volcano. The volcanic run-off has made the soil on the slopes of Mt. Etna some of the most fertile in Italy, rich with deposits.  Today we will get up as high as we can and enjoy spectacular views over the valley .  We will stop today at a few local farms and wine producers in the area. 

In the afternoon head to Siracusa for dinner in Siracusa at a local trattoria and overnight at the Hotel Des Etranges.

Day 11 - Siracusa

Where we visit : Siracusa
Syracuse has possibly the most interesting archaeological site on the island and this morning we will continue visiting such sites.

Day 12 - Ferry to Malta

Where we visit : Malta
Enjoy an early sailing from Pozzallo today to Malta. 

Rest of the day at leisure. Malta is an archipelago in the central Mediterranean between Sicily and the North African coast. It's a naAon known for historic sites related to a succession of rulers including the Romans, Moors, Knights of Saint John, French and BriAsh. Malta has numerous fortresses, megalithic temples and a subterranean complex of halls and burial chambers daAng back to 4000 B.C

Day 13 - Markets - Wine - Food and History in Malta

Where we visit : Malta
This morning first visit the daily farmers market followed by visits to orchards. Mid-afternoon return to your hotel.

Day 14 - The Incredible Island Tour of Malta & the Blue Lagoon

Where we visit : Malta
Enjoy the spectacular island of Goza and the famous Maltese archipelago, notorious for its incredible geomorphologies. 

Lunch with the captain aboard the ship. 

Return to the hotel  in early evening for dinner at leisure and overnight.

Day 15 - Valletta – Pozzallo – Piazza Armerina - Agrigento

Where we visit : Agrigento
An early morning departure by ferry returning to Pozzallo and en-route to Agrigento with a history dating back to the 6th century B.C visit Piazza Armerina to see the ruins of a Roman Villa of Casale.

Time for light lunch in Piazza di Armerina.

In the afternoon, we head to Agrigento for dinenr and overnight.

Day 16 - Agrigento: Guided Walking Tour of the Valley of Temples - Dinner at Local Farm

Where we visit : Agrigento
After breakfast today we enjoy a guided walking tour of Agrigento's Valley of Temples, a vast archeological site with well preserved Greek temples. On the modern city's outskirts is the Museo Archeologico Regionale 'Pietro Griffo', with artifacts and a telamon (giant male figure).

Time to enjoy the coastal area in the afternoon and visit Sciacca. 

In the evening ​we head to a local Sicilian farm for dinner, where they produce  almonds, citrus fruits and olive oil.

Day 17 - Agrigento - Palermo

Where we visit : Mondello
Driving across the vast countryside allows us to see Sicily’s great variety of scenery. On arrival at Marsala, visit a local wine cellar for a tasting of Sicilian wines. Drive along the Salt road with its windmills and saltpans where the old tradition of harvesting salt from the sea is still alive. Continue along the coastal route to Erice, an important religious site associated with goddesses of fertility. Wander through its ancient streets and visit some of the home-made pastry shops, world famous for marzipan sweets and other delicacies such as almond and pistachio pastries.

Arrive this evening in spectacular Mondello, which is just outside of Sicily's capital city of Palermo. Mondello offers fantastic Caribbean type of beaches, gorgeous beach community with fine shopping.

Day 18 - Palermo & Monreale

Where we visit : Palermo
Morning sightseeing tour of Sicily’s capital a city steeped in history where the 12thcentury Palermo Cathedral houses royal tombs, while the huge neoclassical Teatro Massimo is known for opera performances. Also in the centre are the Palazzo dei Normanni, a royal palace started in the 9th century, and the Cappella PalaAna, with ByzanAne mosaics.

Day 19 - Moring Visit to Cefalu - Return Ferry to Cagliari

Where we visit : Sicily
Morning excursion to Cefalu, a picturesque fishing village. Enjoy a leisurely lunch before taking the overnight ferry to Cagliari in Sardinia.

Day 20 - Oristano, Sardinia: The Land of Giants

Where we visit : Saturnia
Upon arrival in Sardinia, we head to Oristano on the western coast with magnificent coastlines.

Time to settle into the hotel.

Day 21 - Sardegna's Pyramids and Natural Reserve

Where we visit : Sardegna
Tour the Nuraghe and Giara di Gesturi, wild horse natural reserve

The nuraghe is the main type of ancient megalithic edifice found in Sardinia, developed during the Nuragic Age between 1900 and 730 BCE. Today it has come to be the symbol of Sardinia and its distinctive culture, the Nuragic civilization
The Giara di Gesturi, Sardinian: Sa Jara Manna, is a high and steep-sided basaltic plateau which extends for about 42 km² in the comuni of Gesturi, Tuili and Setzu in the province of Medio Campidano where wild horses range and are protected.

Day 22 - Orosei and Gennargentu National Park - Visit to an Authentic Sardinian Farm Estate

Where we visit : Sardegna
Oristano - Orosei visiting sites in the Orosei and  Gennargentu National Park home to what is known as Europe's Grand Canyon, with spectacular vistas and gorges. Wildlife in the park includes the Felis lybica sarda (also known as Sardinian wildcat), the mouflon, the marten, the weasel, the edible dormouse, the garden dormouse, the Sardinian fox, the griffon vulture, the golden eagle, the Bonelli's eagle, peregrine falcon, the great spotted woodpecker, the butterfly Corsican swallowtail. 

We will stop today at a local estate and learn about Sardia's ancient farming traditions: :

Day 23 - Cruise the Gulf of Orosei

Where we visit : Sardegna
Cruise the Gulf of Orosei

Enjoy this incredible and magnificent beauty of the national park by private cruise. Experience the tremendous land formations and experience rare sightings of marine mammals like  the Mediterranean monk seal, the fin whale, sperm whale, and various smaller whales and dolphins.

Lunch on board cruise.

Return to hotel in evening for dinner at leisure and overnight.

Day 24 - The Emerald Coast - Costa Smeralda, Porto Rotondo

Where we visit : Sardegna
Explore today the beautiful Emerald Coast visiting towns like Porto Rotondo, Santa Gallura and many others.

Return to Orosei in the evening for dinner at leisure and overnight.

Day 25 - Ferry from Olbia to Ajaccio Corsica

Where we visit :
After breakfast today we head to Olbia to catch the ferry to Corsica.

Day 26 - Napoleon and the Legacy of Bonaparte -

Where we visit :
Ajaccio: Touring Historical Monuments and Forts surrounding Ajaccio,  visiting the Maison Bonaparte a museum dedicated to displaying family heirlooms

In the afternoon, we explore some of the rich agricultural practices of Corsica, where orchards and vineyards shape the landscape, each occupying 12% of the UAA. Olive trees, kiwifruits and citrus trees can be found among others, providing diversity to the French fruit market. Around 1200 ha of chestnut trees are also managed to harvest the fruits, later transformed into flour.

385 farms breed beef cattle and 560 specialize in ewes or/and goats for dairy.. Most of the milk is transformed locally into cheese. Milk of both ewes and goats are often blended, according to the shepherd’s flock composition.

Many cheeses are available in Corsica, and their small-scale production usually doesn’t allow you to taste them anywhere else but on the island.  Brocciu is used fresh as an ingredient in many dishes, savoury or sweet.

Villages and cities of Corsica display are marked by the passing of time and bear witness to the island’s rich history. Bonifacio, Ajacio, Bastia and Calvi have been shaped by many civilizations, from the roman empire to the Doges of Genova and the french republic ! The original small fishing villages where transformed into military and commercial ports. Today they display all the characteristics of Mediteranean cities : fortresses perched on rocks overlooking the sea, merchant streets lined with tall houses and colourful shutters, churches and palaces.

Day 27 - Bouches Bonifacio, Nature reserve

Where we visit :
Ajaccio: Visit Bouches Bonifacio, Nature reserve

Experience more of Corsica's interesting history and agricultural landscapes as we head to the Bouches Bonifacio, nature reserve where even to this day, local traditions are maintained. 

Wild boar stew and delicacies such as coppa or lonzu made from the Corsican pork are popular. The meat tastes of shrub herbs and chestnuts : it’s a delight !​

Day 28 - Corsica to Tuscany

Where we visit : Maremma
Ajaccio to Bastia then ferry  Livorno then head south into  Maremma Region 4 hour crossing.  They can buy lunch aboard the ferry.

Travel south on Tuscan coast to La Parrina estate which is a working farm with an incredible history.  Here, they produce all of their own cheese, wine, olive oil, vegetables and they have a big ranch.

JFK and Jackie O stayed here with their family and the property will allow you to experience hands on pasta making, and even cheese making should you wish.

Day 29 - Maremma Region Tuscany: Legacy of the Etruscans

Where we visit : Maremma
The Maremma region in Tuscany is home to some of Italy's most important agricultural plains and was known in the past as being home to the "Italian Cow- Boys", the Maremma also has an incredible history that dates back to pre-Roman and Greek, settled initially by the Etruscans. 

Today you will visit some other local farms in the area in addition to historic sites like Pitigliano, Sorano and the Saturnia natural springs.

Over the course of the day, you will enjoy several wine tastings, wonderful local products from the region and visiting a variety of local farms, vineyards, cattle ranches and much more! 

Return to La Parrina estate for dinner and overnight.

Day 30 - Assisi & Sitrex SPA

Where we visit : Assisi, Rome
Head today from Tuscany into the region of Umbria to experience the beautiful town of Assisi, the town that St. Francis made so famous.

Enjoy a guided walking tour of the town followed by time for lunch at leisure in Assisi. 

In the afternoon we head to Sitrex SPA  farm equipment for a tour of the plant and in the later afternoon head back to Rome.

Dinner en-route to Rome following day in Umbria. Stop near Orvieto for pizza dinner.

Day 31 - Day at Leisure in Rome: Farewell DInner

Day 32 - Transfer to Rome Airport for Departure Home to Australia

Singapore Airlines flights arrive Perth at 12.50 pm, Melbourne at 5.10 pm, Sydney at 4.50pm, Brisbane at 4.45 pm and Adelaide at 7.30 am the next day. On arrival at Australian Airports all tour members will be required to clear Customs and Immigration formalities.
